For over 100 years, the Colavolpe family in Calabria has been making delicious handmade sweets from the locally grown sumptuous and moist Dottato figs. These single dried figs have been baked in the oven, stuffed with caramelized almonds and black cherries and covered with milk chocolate.
Bite through a delicious layer of milk chocolate to reach the sweet, soft and chewy fig in the centre - the blend of fig, almond and cherry is heavenly! Each individually wrapped chocolate fig is almost a meal in its own right and will go down a storm with fig-lovers or anyone with a sweet tooth looking for something a little different!
These make a lovely gift as we hand-wrap the box in layers of tissue paper and tie it with a pretty ribbon.

The Colavolpe workshop and showroom in Belmonte, Calabria is an Aladdin’s cave of delicious goodies! For three generations the Colavolpe family has been making fig specialities, chocolates, panettoni and extravagant Easter eggs by hand on the premises using only the best local ingredients and traditional recipes.The range of Calabrian sweets, chocolates and panettoni made by Colavolpe have an incomparable taste, made with raw materials such as figs and citrus fruits from a still unspoilt land where ancient techniques are passed down from generation to generation.
Their fig delicacies are hand made using a local Calabrian fig variety awarded ‘DOP’ (Protected Designation of Origin) status by the EU and considered to be one of the most prized figs in the world. They have a green skin and golden interior, their flesh is sweet, creamy and bright. They thrive in the hot summer sun of the Mediterranean where they are left to dry for three days and then stuffed with almonds of walnuts, baked in the oven for an hour and covered in chocolate.
Besides top quality figs, their other "secret" ingredient to these delicious treats is a special syrup whose recipe is guarded like a priceless treasure! Each of the three Colavolpe children have been given a third of the recipe. This ensures the family works together to maintain the family tradition.
