A symbol of Easter and Spring time in Italy, the Colomba, or dove in English, is a traditional cake in the shape of a flying dove, soft and moist and similar in consistency to the Christmas panettone. This year we are excited to introduce you to a delicious variation on the classic Colomba recipe, adding dark chocolate chips and black cherries to the sweet dough to give an incredible burst of flavour to every bite.

Our chocolate and cherry Colombe have been handmade for Vorrei this year by our friends at Colavolpe in Calabria, Southern Italy.

WHEAT flour, candied sour black cherries 22% (sour cherries 52,5%, glucose – fructose syrup, saccharose, sour cherry juice 2,5%, vegetable concentrate (black carrot, hibiscus), acidity regulator: citric acid, natural flavourings), BUTTER, sugar, EGG yolk, dark chocolate 7% (sugar, cocoa paste, cocoa butter, emulsifier: SOY lecithin, vanilla natural flavors), natural mother yeast (contains WHEAT), Emulsifier: mono and diglycerides of fatty acids of vegetable origin – sunflower lecithin, invert sugar syrup, salt, WHEAT malt, flavors, vanilla extract from Madagascar beans.

Our Producer - Colavolpe

The Colavolpe workshop and showroom in Belmonte, Calabria is an Aladdin’s cave of delicious goodies! For three generations the Colavolpe family has been making fig specialities, chocolates, panettoni and these beautiful dove cakes by hand on the premises using only the best local ingredients and traditional recipes.

The range of Calabrian sweets, chocolates and panettoni made by Colavolpe have an incomparable taste, made with wonderful raw materials such as figs and citrus fruits from a still unspoilt land where ancient techniques are passed down from generation to generation.
