Almendra Blanca Mexico Dark Chocolate 100%
Gold Medal Winner - International Chocolate Awards 2018
This single origin dark chocolate bar has been made by hand from Almendra Blanca or white almond beans (also known as Carmelo 1) from the state of Tabasco (in the southern part of Mexico). These beans are rare and precious because of the white and acidic, very fine seeds, perhaps originating from the Amazon, which now only small producers continue to grow, thus preserving the delicacy of these plants.
The result is extraordinary: in the mouth the chocolate becomes sweet and elegant, with an abundance of exotic fruit, so much so that it does not need to be softened by sugar in any way. In fact this is a 100% dark chocolate: “Zero Dosage”.
In the typical Modican style, this is a bean to bar rough ground chocolate with no preservatives or dyes, no added vegetable fats or lecithin.
Cacao Carmelo 1 (Mexico) 100%
A must for chocolate lovers, Modican chocolate is a chocolate full of history made following ancient manual Aztec methods, brought to Modica, Sicily by the Spanish in the 16th century. No one else produces chocolate in this way anywhere in the world and no other chocolate tastes quite like this.
Modica is a small town on Sicily’s southern coast rich in art and history. It has been declared cultural patrimony by UNESCO. In the centre of the town you can find Donna Elvira’s chocolate shop just by following the wonderful aroma!
Our producer Donna Elvira is an award winning family run company, established in 1999 and one of just a handful of producers of the traditionally made Modica chocolate. Their chocolate has been awarded prestigious Gold and Silver Medals every year at the International Chocolate awards and this year was no exception.
Donna Elvira pride themselves on using organic locally-sourced ingredients as well as the best quality organic cocoa varieties from Central and South America. You will never find anything artificial in their products, neither flavours, colours nor preservatives.
