This Montepulciano is bright ruby in colour, with a pleasant nose of red cherry, with gentle violet and tobacco notes. The palate frames blackcurrant and damson fruit with soft tannins and notes of liquorice and spice. Medium weight and a little acidity make this a great all-round food wine.

Clean tasting and very easy to drink, because, in addition to the great professionalism that they put into the wine making process, Masciarello grapes enjoy care and a perfect microclimate for their maturation. As Gianni Masciarelli said: every producer has two cellars, one of cement and one under the sky; but it is the second to be more important, the vineyard, because to make decent wines we must first think about making extraordinary grapes.

Pair with pasta dishes, with roasts of both red and white red meat and with sliced and cured meat.

Our Producer

Masciarelli Tenute Agricole

The Mascierelli Estate was established in 1981 by Gianni Masciarelli, a symbol of Italian wine and one of the protagonists of the success of modern wine production in Abruzzo. The heart of the winery is in San Martino sulla Marrucina, in the province of Chieti, and includes vineyards and olive groves, in 14 towns across all 4 provinces of Abruzzo (Chieti, Teramo, Pescara e L’Aquila).

These are vineyards with very specific characteristic, rich in minerals and set at different altitudes (from 200 to 500m), producing different expressions of the wine varieties. Since the very beginning, Masciarelli focussed on the potentials of the native wine varieties: Montepulciano and Trebbiano. Great importance is given to the land and to its wine culture and tradition, and modern innovations coexist with craftmanship and old traditions.

The Estate also has a small production of extra virgin olive oil and now has 18 labels and five product lines.

This wine maker has been recognised by 'Slow Wine' which supports and promotes small-scale Italian winemakers who are using traditional techniques, working with respect for the environment and terroir, and safeguarding the incredible biodiversity of grape varieties that are part of Italy’s heritage.
