Calabrian Butirro Cheese
Weight: 250g (approx.)
Butirro is a very special cheese you may not have heard of yet! A typical dairy product of southern Italy, it is said to have been invented in Calabria. This authentic invention which dates back to ancient times can be considered a precursor of vacuum packing as the outer part of the cheese was used to store the butter inside for many months before the time of fridges!
The outer layer of semi-seasoned curd cheese is made from cow's milk and stretched to form an elongated shape, inside the cheese you find a heart of pure soft and creamy butter with a full flavour.
Our Butirro cheese comes shrink-wrapped. Once open wrap well with foil and it will keep in the fridge for around a week.
Cow’s milk, rennet, salt, butter. No preservatives.
