Often described as Italy's greatest wine, Barolo is a red wine produced in the northern Italian region of Piedmont, specifically in the Langhe region, an area of steep and rolling hillside vineyards dotted with small villages. Italy's Barolo wines are powerful and complex tannic, acidic reds. Barolo is classified as a 'Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG)' wine, the highest classification for Italy's wines which are produced under strictly controlled growing and production conditions. Barolo represents the top of Italy's designated wine appellations and one of its smallest.
A garnet-red in colour with orange hues. Scents of raspberries, rose petal and dark ripe cherry. On the palate, full-bodied and generous with a velvety mouthfeel leading to a lingering finish suggesting sweet spices and a hint of vanilla.

Our Producer
Ferdinando Principiano
Ferdinando Principiano is producing world-class elegant and natural wines, with a watermark of traditional Barolo terroir. Ferdinando started in 1993, with 7 hectares from his father and grandfather; he now owns and farms 21 hectares. All farming is uncertified organic, but he goes way beyond the normal organic practices and is obsessed with preserving or creating the conditions for biodiversity in and around his vineyards. He works the vineyards by hand, including the use of a scythe. All cellar work is low intervention.
