This ‘Mozzarella di Bufala Campana’ or Buffalo Mozzarella has a silky, soft texture and a tastier, creamier flavour than normal cow’s milk mozzarella.

Mozzarella di Bufala Campana is an easily digested cheese with a limited lactose and cholesterol content. It is also an excellent source of protein with a high biological value, accompanied by a moderate amount of fats. Furthermore, the cheese also provides high amounts of Calcium and Phosphorus, of water-soluble vitamins such as B1, B2, B6 and Niacin. Finally, it is also a good source of vitamin E and Zinc, both substances that contribute to fighting the negative actions of free radicals. The low level of sodium present makes it preferable to cow's milk mozzarella and other types of cheeses that are notoriously rich in this mineral.

The expression "mozzarella" comes from the verb "mozzare" (to cut off) or, in other words, the operation that is still performed in all dairies where the cheese is manually handled with a characteristic movement and pieces of stringy curd are then detached with index fingers and thumbs to form the individual mozzarellas in their most typical, round form, each of which is about the size of a small fist.

Our mozzarella is 'Bufala Campana DOP' meaning that it has been produced in a designated area of Southern Italy, in this case the Province of Caserta in Campania, recognised around the world as one of the best places in Italy for the production of Buffalo Mozzarella.

Serving suggestion:

Wonderful served simply sliced in a ‘tricolore’ or three–colour salad alongside tomatoes and torn basil leaves and drizzled with quality extra virgin olive oil. Buffalo mozzarella also goes well as part of an antipasto platter, in hot and cold pastas dishes, on pizzas and in calzones.

How to Store

Refrigeration - Store Mozzarella di Bufala in the refrigerator at a temperature between 35°F to 40°F (1.5°C to 4°C). Keep it in its original packaging or place it in an airtight container filled with water.

Use Quickly - Mozzarella di Bufala is best enjoyed fresh, so try to use it within 1-2 days of purchase for optimal flavour and texture.
